Aquarium
Takashi Amano – Nature Aquarium Concept
This planet has produced and nurtured rich nature
for over four billion years.
Human beings gained the ability to destroy it all too easily.
Pristine water became muddy and brilliant green forest turned dull.
What human beings did to enrich their lives
is turning to torment them on the contrary.
Stark landscape produces only a callous heart.
In pursuit of transient wealth, human beings abandoned the way of living
with nature and forgot that they can only exist in nature.
Beautiful scenery is maintained in Nature Aquarium
when aquatic plants, fish,
and microorganisms live together harmoniously.
Nature Aquarium reminds people of the world
where human beings live in harmony with nature.
A beautiful and rich world is produced
when everything is well balanced and working in harmony.
People are moved by scenery recreated in an aquarium
only when everything in it appears reasonable.
It would be very gratifying if the tiny message transmitted
by this small world could ease many people’s minds.

“Aquascaping is the craft of arranging aquatic plants, as well as rocks, stones, cavework, or driftwood, in an aesthetically pleasing manner within an aquarium—in effect, gardening under water. Aquascape designs include a number of distinct styles, including the garden-like Dutch style and the Japanese-inspired nature style. Typically, an aquascape houses fish as well as plants, although it is possible to create an aquascape with plants only, or with rockwork or other hardscape and no plants.”
